The first ever Breakaway weekend took place at YHA Bryn Gwynant, North Wales on 17th-19th August.

A full programme of action adventure and team building activities took place over 2 days. Families and young people joined together from all over the country, and bonded straight away through their similar personal experiences of bowel and bladder diversions.

Despite the typical wet Welsh weather, everybody had great fun team building, walking and canoeing. The last night disco and party proved a massive success and a very fitting conclusion to a fantastic weekend.
Breakaway 2008 took place at YHA National Forest, in the East Midlands on the 2nd-5th May.

Following the success of the first weekend, the organisers extended the break to 3 nights. The accommodation offered 2-4 bed rooms - all en suite, a bar and bistro. There was (of course!) the last night disco and party.
For its third weekend, Breakaway went to the beach! The weekend was held at YHA Broadhaven, Pembrokeshire, South Wales on May 22nd for 3 nights.

YHA Broad Haven is a spacious, modern, single storey building, set in its own grounds just 100m from the stunning Blue Flag beaches of St Brides Bay.
Activities included surfing, coasteering and raft building. There was, of course the Breakaway last night party with a BBQ and disco.
At all events there were stoma nurses on hand to offer support, as well as people who had first hand experience of living with a bowel or bladder diversion.
Breakaway offers the chance for families and young people to meet, talk about and share their experiences in a relaxed and friendly environment. The main aim of Breakaway though, is to have fun!
